đď¸ The first FARHA Inc. research podcast is here! In this S1E1, St. Theresa Point’s Tanya Dawn McDougall, Anisininew scholar and Knowledge Carrier, child educator and psychologist, takes us through the intricacies of building resilience skills in young children from St. Theresa Point who have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. She shares her insight and experiences with using a psychology concept known as Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) interwoven with Anisininew concepts for mindfulness and kinship. This episode was recorded in Anisinineemowin and Tanya provided translation services.
It is an initiative of the iCARE Research group of the University of Manitoba, co-led by Drs. Allison Dart and Brandy Wicklow. The sessions were co-developed by teams from STP, FARHA Inc., iCARE and Lily Pankratz, a postgraduate psychology scholar at the University of Manitoba. A mental wellness assessment tool developed by Sydney Levasseur-Puhach, the Indigenous Youth Wellness Measure was used during the DBT sessions. (See also Leslie Roos https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7083-4017)). Special thanks to Tanya and Jennifer, FARHA Inc., STP leadership, school and community members, the patient advisory group (PAG), the iCARE team and Lily, Jackie and Lawrence, and many others!
