Dr. Doucette receives the Dr. John A. Moorhouse Diabetes Fellowship

Dr. Christine Doucette has recently received the Dr. John A. Moorhouse Diabetes Fellowship from the Diabetes Foundation of Manitoba, valued at $120, 000. Dr. Doucette’s research is focussed on understanding how and why the pancreatic beta cell fails to secrete appropriate amounts of insulin, leading to type 2 diabetes. Projects in the Doucette lab include investigations into the role of circadian clock dysfunction in beta cell failure as well as examining the role of a single nucleotide polymorphism in the HNF-1a gene (HNF1aG319S) in the development in youth-onset type 2 diabetes in Manitoban Indigenous youth. Funds provided by the Dr. John A. Moorhouse fellowship will be instrumental in supporting our goal of finding improved therapies and preventative strategies for children living with or at risk for youth-onset type 2 diabetes.
