SUMMARY:DREAM Seminar Series: Ketone Metabolism as a Target for the Pharmacotherapy of Type 2 Diabetes
DESCRIPTION:Dr. John Ussher from the University of Alberta will be presenting “Ketone Metabolism as a Target for the Pharmacotherapy of Type 2 Diabetes” in 500 JBRC from 12 – 1 p.m. \n\n\n\nDr. John Ussher carried out his PhD training with Dr. Gary Lopaschuk at the University of Alberta (UofA; 2004-2010)\, where he acquired expertise in the molecular regulation of cardiac energy metabolism. Following his PhD training\, John trained with Dr. Daniel Drucker at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute at the University of Toronto (2010-2014) to acquire expertise in GLP-1 biology and how GLP-1 influences the cardiovascular system.  \n\n\n\nHe is currently a Professor in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the UofA\, where his lab investigates the mechanisms by which obesity-related perturbations in intermediary energy metabolism contribute to the pathology of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease\, and whether these mechanisms represent novel targets for pharmacotherapy. \n\n\n\nJohn Ussher 10 Jul 2025Download
