The 4th annual DREAM symposium identified the importance of patient engagement throughout the research process and included a presentation from our local iCARE patient advisory group.
THEME DEVELOPMENTAL ORIGINS OF DIABETES
GUEST SPEAKERS: Dr. Susan Ozanne (University of Cambridge), Dr. Dana Dabelea (University of Colorado Denver), Dr. Sandra Davidge (University of Alberta)
Presentations focused on the current research surrounding in utero health and exposures, and the effects on the health of the baby.
THEME INTERVENTIONS TO PREVENT & TREAT TYPE 2 DIABETES
GUEST SPEAKERS: Dr. Bruce Verchere (University of British Columbia), Dr. Phil Zeitler (University of Colorado), Dr. Patrick Schrauwen (Maastricht University)
A variety of interventions currently being done, both with animal models and human participants, were presetend to show what is being done to prevent and treat type 2 diabetes, and what the next steps are.
THEME MITOCHONDRIA IN HEALTH AND DISEASE
The first annual DREAM symposium explored the role of mitochondria in health and disease, with a focus on type 2 diabetes.
